I tried my hand at some character sketching through Adobe Photoshop. So far I have tried some environmental renders which were rather easy, and a car render which may not be finished because of how bad it turned out, and how difficult it was... This character sketch was in-between in terms of difficulty. I had created this character design on paper as a small thumbnail sketch for fun, and thought about including it into a project of mine. I am not sure about that just yet, so I decided to use this character to get some practice.
Some things about the character. She is known as the Beetle Queen, somewhat having to do with those large beetle-like claws on her headpiece. She rides atop a large beetle with a powerful, maniacal laugh.
THE SKETCH

The render was done in Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended. I used a Wacom Graphire4 tablet to do the color render, but used paper and pencil for the line work. There are some line work that was done in Photoshop only because they were last minute changes. To save time and focus on the more important details, I simply copied the character three times on different layers and either added or subtracted parts of the outfits. The first one is a more flexible setup, allowing for more movement during combat. The second is a very general setup, without all the bling. The third would be the full attire complete with a sword sheathed at the back.

I love designing characters. I find it soothing. Nice work, too! I'm digging that outfit, too, it reminds me of what Jackie Chan's sister wore in Shanghai Knights.
